Dad and mom were here in Singapore! We brought them to lots of places and one of it was East Coast Park! Before i elaborate on the trip itinerary (in which i will write in my next post), i would like to ask you guys, do you know these shell/stone looking are actually oysters??LOL
Lots of ppl didnt know bout that. Last time when i was in Langkawi, i used to go to the beach and knock on this hard shell to get the oysters! Its fun "knocking" but be careful, as the sharp edges will scratch ur skin! (i got it when i was at East Coast P.) >.<
Let me tell u more bout oysters!! (my favourite!! eheehe!!)
The word oyster is used as a common name for a number of distinct groups of bivalve molluscs which live in marine or brackish habitats. The valves are highly calcified.
Some kinds of oyster are commonly consumed by humans, cooked or raw. Other kinds, such as pearl oyster, are not.
Health benefits of eating oysters
Molluscs such as cockles, mussels, oysters, scallops and clams are very low in cholesterol. These species contain about half as much cholesterol as chicken, and much less cholesterol than most red meats. In addition, they are high in such nutrients as Omega-3 oils, Zinc and Vitamin D, and are very low in fat. (further in depth explanation)
- Oysters are the most concentrated natural source of zinc, which is essential to maintaining a strong immune system, supports wound healing, maintains the senses of taste and smell. Zinc deficiency can result in symptoms such as slow growth, poor appetite, decreased wound healing, loss of hair, impaired senses of taste and smell, more frequent infections.
- Oyster is a good source of protein, each serving of six medium oysters contains six grams of protein. The protein found in oysters is high in tyrosine, an amino acid used by the brain to help regulate mood and adapt to stress. (:D)
- Oyster is low in fat and calories. A serving of oysters contains just 2 grams of fat.
- Oyster is low in cholesterol, it only contain 55mg of cholesterol per serving.
- Oyster help maintain collagen and elastin fibers that give skin its firmness and help prevent sagging and wrinkle. ( i know this!)
- Oyster is a known aphrodisiac because it is rich in amino acids that trigger increased levels of sex hormones. Another reason is that high zinc content of oyster aids in the production of testosterone. (lol! i know this too!)
- Oyster can help improve vision.
- Oyster is also rich in iron, calcium and vitamin A.
